The Intel Core i3-1005G1 is a mid-range power-efficient dual-core processor for laptop PCs. This SoC is based on the Ice -Lake-U generation launched in the 3rd quarter of 2019. The i3-1005G1 incorporates two Sunnycove processor cores because of HyperThreading technology it can process up to 4 threads at once.

The Core i3-1005G1 dual-core SoC has a base clock speed of 1.2 GHz, but because of Turbo Boost, the clock speed increases up to 3.4 GHz. Intel expresses that the Sunnycove cores reach 18% more Instructions per Clock and hence the CPU performance would be comparable to the higher clocked Core i3-8145U with a clock speed of 2.3 GHz up to 3.9 GHz, or with the older SoC like Core i7-7660U with a core speed from 2.5 GHz up to 4 GHz.

The Core i3-1005G1 has an integrated graphics card called Intel UHD Graphics G1. This SoC integrates the smallest GPU, with 32 of the 64 CUs and clocks at 300 MHz up to 900 MHz. The faster variants offer higher clock speeds which are up to 1.1 GHz and include Iris Plus G4 and G7 with 48 EU and 64 EU respectively. The performance of this iGPU should beyond the old Intel UHD Graphics 620. Most likely, the G1 graphics will not reach the performance of the old Iris Plus 640 with more cores and 64 MB eDRAM. Thus, only a few new bestseller games can be rendered smoothly with the Intel UHD Graphics G1.

The Core i3-1005G1 also features AI hardware acceleration and the partial integration of Thunderbolt and Wifi 6 in the chip. The integrated DDR4 memory controller supports memory modules with up to 3200 MHz and LPDDDR4 3733. Other features include AVX512, DL Boost, and Turbo Boost 2.0.

The Core i3-1005G1 has a TDP that is stipulated at 15 Watts, and this means that the SoC can be used in thin and light laptop PCs. Intel presents a configurable TDP (cTDP) from 13 watts to 25 Watts resulting in a noticeable performance difference. According to Intel, when the SoC is configured at 13 Watt, the processor runs only at the processing speed of 0.9 GHz.

The i3-1005G1 dual-core processor has a CPU Mark of 5252 points. On the other hand, the i3-8145U has a CPU Mark score of 3791, the Core i7-7660U scores 4200, while the Core i3-1000NG4 scores 4326.
