The Intel Core i3-1305U: An Entry-Level Mobile CPU for Thin and Light Laptops

Core i3-1305U

The Intel Core i3-1305U is an entry-level mobile CPU from the Raptor Lake-U series, designed for thin and light laptops. It was announced in early 2023 and offers a balance of performance and efficiency for everyday computing tasks.

Core and Thread Configuration

The i3-1305U features one performance core (P-core) based on the Golden Cove architecture and 4 efficient cores (E-cores) based on the Gracemont architecture. The P-core supports Hyper-Threading, leading to 6 supported threads when combined with the E-cores. The clock rate ranges from 1.6 to 4.5 GHz on the performance cluster and 1.2 to 3.3 GHz on the efficient cluster. The E-cores are similar in performance to old Skylake cores. All cores can use up to 10 MB of L3-cache.

Performance

The performance of the i3-1305U should be slightly higher than the old Alder Lake Pentium 8505 (max. 4.4 GHz and 8 MB L3-cache).

Integrated Features

The CPU has an integrated memory controller that supports various memory types, including DDR5-5200, DDR4-3200, LPDDR5-5200, and LPDDR4x-4267. The Thread Director (in hardware) can support the operating system in deciding which thread to use on the performance or efficient cores for the best performance. For AI tasks, the CPU also integrates GNA 3.0 and DL Boost (via AVX2). Quick Sync in version 8 is the same as in the Rocket Lake CPUs and supports MPEG-2, AVC, VC-1 decode, JPEG, VP8 decode, VP9, HEVC, and AV1 decode in hardware. The CPU only supports PCIe 4.0 (x8 for a GPU and two x4 for SSDs).

Integrated Graphics

The integrated graphics adapter is based on the Xe-architecture and offers 64 of the 96 EUs (Execution Units) operating at up to 1.25 GHz.

Power Consumption

The i3-1305U has a base power consumption of 15 W, with 55 W being its maximum Intel-recommended Turbo power consumption. The CPU is built with a further improved 10nm SuperFin process at Intel (Intel 7).

Comparison with Other Raptor Lake-U CPUs

The i3-1305U is part of the Intel Raptor Lake-U series, which also includes the following CPUs:

  • Intel Core i7-1365U: 1.3 - 5.2 GHz, 10/12 cores, 12 MB L3
  • Intel Core i7-1355U: 1.2 - 5 GHz, 10/12 cores, 12 MB L3
  • Intel Core i5-1345U: 1.2 - 4.7 GHz, 10/12 cores, 12 MB L3
  • Intel Core i5-1335U: 0.9 - 4.6 GHz, 10/12 cores, 12 MB L3
  • Intel Core i5-1334U: 0.9 - 4.6 GHz, 10/12 cores, 12 MB L3
  • Intel Core i3-1315U: 0.9 - 4.5 GHz, 6/8 cores, 10 MB L3
  • Intel Processor U300: 0.9 - 4.4 GHz, 5/6 cores, 8 MB L3

Summary

The Intel Core i3-1305U is an entry-level mobile CPU designed for thin and light laptops. It offers a balance of performance and efficiency, with one performance core and four efficient cores, supporting a maximum clock rate of 1.6 to 4.5 GHz and 1.2 to 3.3 GHz respectively. The CPU also features an integrated memory controller that supports various memory types, a Thread Director for optimized performance, and AI-specific features such as GNA 3.0 and DL Boost. Additionally, it comes with an integrated Xe-architecture graphics adapter and Quick Sync 8, as well as support for PCIe 4.0. Power consumption is low with a base consumption of 15W and 55W max recommended consumption. Overall, the i3-1305U is a solid choice for basic computing tasks, and is well-suited for lightweight laptops.
