Leaked Specs of Google Tensor G3 Chip for Pixel 8: Upgraded CPU Clocks, Arm Mali GPU, and Potential to Outperform Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Google Tensor G3

Google is preparing to release its latest smartphone, the Pixel 8, alongside the Tensor G3 chip, which will power the device. Recent leaks have given us a glimpse of the Tensor G3's alleged specifications, including its CPU and GPU configuration.

According to @tech_reve on Twitter, the Tensor G3 will feature a tri-cluster CPU with one Cortex X3, four Cortex-A715, and four Cortex-A510 cores. However, Google has reportedly increased the clocks on some clusters, with the Cortex-X3 operating at 3.3 GHz, the Cortex-A715 at 2.6 GHz, and the Cortex-A510 at 2.2-2.3 GHz. This update could potentially improve the device's performance.

The Tensor G3's GPU will reportedly use an off-the-shelf Arm Mali-G715 MP8, which is a little disappointing, as previous rumors estimated it to be an RDNA-based Xclipse 920, the same GPU used on the Exynos 2200. Nonetheless, the leaker claims that the Tensor G3 will outperform the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is quite an ambitious statement, as Qualcomm's chip is considered a powerhouse. However, if the Tensor G3 performs well, it could give prospective Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro buyers a lot of confidence in their devices' performance.

The Tensor G3 will be manufactured on Samsung Foundries' 4LPP node, which has reportedly improved significantly since it was last seen in action in 2022 (Exynos 2200/Snapdragon 8 Gen 1). This performance improvement will give us a rough idea of what to expect from the Exynos 2400, which will be manufactured on the 4LPP+ node, and what the Galaxy S23 FE's "new" Exynos 2200 variant is capable of.

Overall, the Tensor G3's rumored specifications suggest that it will be a powerful chip that could potentially outperform the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. However, until we get official confirmation from Google, we should take these leaks with a grain of salt. Nonetheless, these rumors have certainly piqued the interest of tech enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the release of the Pixel 8 series later this year.
