Intel Core i5-13500HX Outperforms AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX in Geekbench Test

Geekbench Test

Intel's recently announced Core i5-13500HX processor has outperformed the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX in a Geekbench test. The Core i5-13500HX scored 1,711 points on the single-core test and 11,319 on the multi-core test, while the Ryzen 9 6900HX scored an average of 1,564 and 9,863 points on the same tests.

The Core i5-13500HX is a 14-core (6P plus 8E), 20-thread processor with a single-core boost clock of 4.7 GHz. It is part of Intel's Raptor Lake HX class of CPUs, which are repurposed desktop dies designed for high-performance devices. These CPUs have a base TDP of 55 Watts and can turbo up to 157 Watts when needed.

In comparison, the Core i5-12600HX, which is a 12-core (4P plus 8E), 16-thread processor, scored 1,700 and 9,235 on the single and multi-core tests, respectively. This suggests that the Core i5-13500HX's improved performance can be attributed to its increase in both P and E cores.

The performance of the Core i5-13500HX is particularly impressive when compared to the last-gen flagship Zen 3 chip, the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX. While AMD's current-gen Zen 4-based laptops may narrow the gap somewhat, Intel appears to be ahead of the pack for now. It is worth noting that the Core i5-13500HX's performance may improve with stable drivers.

It is important to note that benchmark tests like Geekbench can provide a general idea of a processor's performance, but they do not necessarily reflect real-world usage. It is always a good idea to look at multiple sources of information and consider factors such as a processor's technical specifications, price, and the specific needs of the user before making a purchase decision.

In addition to the Core i5-13500HX, Intel also unveiled a range of other laptop CPUs at CES 2023, including the low-power Alder Lake-N models and the high-end Raptor Lake HX class. These processors offer a variety of features and capabilities that may be suitable for different types of users and applications.

As with any new technology, it will take some time for more information about the performance and capabilities of the Core i5-13500HX and other Raptor Lake HX processors to become available. In the meantime, it is worth keeping an eye on reviews and benchmarks from trusted sources to get a better understanding of how these processors compare to their competitors.

Overall, the initial results of the Geekbench test suggest that the Intel Core i5-13500HX is a promising processor that offers a significant boost in multi-core performance compared to its predecessor. It will be interesting to see how it performs in real-world usage and how it compares to other processors in its class as more information becomes available.
