AYA NEO, a Chinese tech company that specializes in portable gaming devices, has announced plans to upgrade its existing gaming handhelds to the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U, one of AMD's upcoming Zen 4 and RDNA 3-based APUs. The company has also promised to offer speaker and heat sink upgrades for other models.
The Ryzen 7 7840U is expected to provide a significant performance boost compared to the current Ryzen 7 6800U-based models. This is because the new APU will feature a more advanced Zen 4 CPU and RDNA 3 graphics architecture. The Zen 4 architecture is expected to provide better overall performance and efficiency, while the RDNA 3 architecture is expected to offer improved graphics performance and power efficiency.
AYA NEO has not yet revealed the exact timings and prices for the upgrades, but it has provided some details on how they will be performed. Customers will be offered two upgrade methods. The first method is to dispatch AIR Plus units with Ryzen 7000 APUs, although the exact date for this has not been disclosed. The second method is to ship units back to AYA NEO for its engineers to perform the upgrade. Again, the exact timing and cost for this option are unknown.
In addition to the CPU and graphics upgrades, AYA NEO will also offer a speaker upgrade package for original AIR units. The company hopes to have the AIR Speaker Upgrade Kit ready by the middle of May, although there will be the option of having AYA NEO upgrade the speakers as well. Similarly, AYA NEO will offer a new heat sink kit for AYA NEO 2 and AYA NEO GEEK units.
The AYA NEO AIR Plus is one of two devices set to receive the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U upgrades. The other device is the AYA NEO 2S, which was announced earlier this week alongside the AYA NEO GEEK 1S. These new devices are expected to offer even better performance and features than the existing AYA NEO devices.
The AYA NEO 2S is expected to feature a 7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It will be powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U APU, which is expected to provide up to 50% more performance than the Ryzen 7 6800U. The device will also feature 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, up to 2TB of SSD storage, and support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.
The AYA NEO GEEK 1S, on the other hand, is expected to feature a 6.8-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It will be powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 5700U APU, which is expected to provide up to 35% more performance than the Ryzen 7 4800U. The device will also feature 16GB of LPDDR4 memory, up to 1TB of SSD storage, and support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.
It is not yet clear when the AYA NEO 2S and AYA NEO GEEK 1S will be available for purchase or how much they will cost. However, AYA NEO has stated that it will continue to offer its existing devices, including the AYA NEO and AYA NEO AIR, alongside the new models.
