Google Pixel Fold Leaked: Official Images Show Wide Cover Display and Flush Hinge Design

The world of smartphones is always evolving and changing, and one of the most exciting developments in recent years has been the rise of foldable devices. With Samsung leading the way with their Galaxy Z Fold line, it was only a matter of time before other manufacturers followed suit. And now, it seems that Google is set to release their own foldable device, the Pixel Fold.

Last week, we got our first glimpse of the Pixel Fold thanks to a video shared by Kuba Wojciechowski. While the video didn't reveal too many details about the device, it did give us a sense of its overall design and form factor. And now, we have even more information to go on, thanks to a set of leaked official photos of the Pixel Fold shared by Evan Blass.

These photos confirm that the Pixel Fold will indeed be a foldable device, with a hinge that allows it to close flush. The device features a 5.8-inch cover display with a 17.4:9 aspect ratio and a 2,092 x 1,080 native resolution. This makes it slightly smaller than the cover display on the Galaxy Z Fold4, which measures 6.2 inches with a 23.1:9 aspect ratio. However, the Pixel Fold's wider aspect ratio may make it feel more like a compact flagship device, such as the Zenfone 9.

Unfortunately, we don't yet have any images of the Pixel Fold's foldable display, which is sure to be the device's standout feature. However, the leaked photos do give us a good sense of the device's overall design. The Pixel Fold appears to have relatively thin bezels around its cover display, which should help it feel more immersive when in use. And while the hinge may be slightly thicker than that of the Galaxy Z Fold4, it still appears to allow the device to close fully without any unsightly gaps or bulges.

One interesting detail to note is that the Pixel Fold lacks the full-width camera bar that we've seen on recent Pixel devices, such as the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. It's unclear whether this means that the Pixel Fold will have a different camera setup than those devices, or if Google has simply found a new way to incorporate the cameras into the device's design.

According to Blass, Google is expected to showcase the Pixel Fold during its I/O 2023 keynote. However, the device may not be available for purchase until June. When it does go on sale, the Pixel Fold is expected to start at $1,799, which is on par with other high-end foldable devices on the market. And as a bonus, pre-orders for the device will reportedly come with a complimentary Pixel Watch, which should sweeten the deal for anyone on the fence about making the purchase.

All in all, the Pixel Fold looks like an exciting addition to the world of foldable devices. While we don't yet know all the details about its specs and features, the leaked photos give us a good sense of what to expect. If you're in the market for a new smartphone and are intrigued by the idea of a foldable device, the Pixel Fold may be worth keeping an eye on as its release date approaches.
