Apple's iPhone 15: No Storage Glow-Up!

Apple's iPhone 15

Apple has no plans to up the storage on its upcoming smartphones. The iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max will all ship with 128 GB storage on board. The iPhone 15 Pro Max will also cost US$100 more than its predecessor.

Unlike the past few release cycles, the iPhone 15 series is tipped to bring some serious upgrades, including a 48 MP wide-angle lens and Dynamic Island across all devices. The Pro models get a 3 nm A17 Bionic SoC and 8 GB of RAM. Unfortunately, the base storage will still be stuck at 128 GB. The information comes from TrendForce analysts.

This isn't surprising, given Apple's history of stingy behavior with phone storage. Until two generations ago (iPhone 12), the base variant offered a paltry 64 GB of storage- a trend that started with the iPhone 8 in 2017. 128 GB was the default starting with the iPhone 13, and that situation is unlikely to change anytime soon.

The report debunks earlier rumors about Apple launching a 2 TB version of the iPhone 15 Pro Max/iPhone 15 Ultra. We'll know for sure next week on September 12. As predicted earlier, the top-spec iPhone 15 Pro Max will get pricier by US$100 (US$1,199 MSRP for the base variant) due to its titanium chassis and periscope telephoto lens.

Thankfully, the rest of the lineup (iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro) will cost the same as their predecessors. It was reported earlier that the iPhone 15 Pro Max would hit shelves a few weeks after the rest due to component sourcing delays. TrendForce's report says Apple has overcome said delays but refused to comment on when either model goes on sale.

iPhone 15 Storage: Staying at 128 GB

The iPhone 15 series is maintaining its base storage at 128 GB, according to reports from TrendForce analysts. While this might disappoint some users who were hoping for larger storage options, it aligns with Apple's recent storage strategy.

For several generations, Apple started its base iPhone models with just 64 GB of storage. It wasn't until the iPhone 13 that the base storage was increased to 128 GB. This trend is continuing with the iPhone 15 series, indicating that Apple is prioritizing other features and improvements over storage capacity.

Exciting Upgrades in the iPhone 15 Series

Despite the consistent base storage, the iPhone 15 series is set to deliver some exciting upgrades. All devices in the series will feature a 48 MP wide-angle lens, promising improved photography capabilities. Additionally, the Pro models will be powered by a cutting-edge 3 nm A17 Bionic SoC and equipped with 8 GB of RAM.

These enhancements in camera technology and processing power demonstrate Apple's commitment to providing a top-notch user experience, even if it doesn't include significant changes in storage capacity.

No 2 TB Variant for iPhone 15 Pro Max

Previous rumors suggested that Apple might introduce a 2 TB variant of the iPhone 15 Pro Max or iPhone 15 Ultra. However, recent reports from TrendForce indicate that this won't be the case. Apple is sticking with the 128 GB base storage for all models in the iPhone 15 series.

While this might disappoint users who were anticipating a higher storage option, it's essential to note that Apple often focuses on providing a seamless and efficient ecosystem where cloud storage and optimization play a significant role in managing data.

Price Adjustments in the iPhone 15 Series

One notable change in the iPhone 15 series is the pricing of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It's expected to cost an additional US$100 compared to its predecessor. This price increase is attributed to the use of a titanium chassis and the inclusion of a periscope telephoto lens, enhancing the device's build and photography capabilities.

However, for users interested in the other models, such as the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro, the good news is that they will maintain the same price points as their predecessors. This pricing stability ensures that Apple continues to offer a range of options to cater to various user preferences and budgets.

Release Schedule and Component Sourcing

There were earlier reports suggesting that the iPhone 15 Pro Max might face delays in its release due to component sourcing challenges. However, according to TrendForce's latest report, it appears that Apple has successfully resolved these issues.

While the exact release dates for the iPhone 15 series remain undisclosed, the report indicates that both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will launch alongside their Pro Max counterpart. This is welcome news for eager Apple enthusiasts who are looking forward to getting their hands on the latest devices.

In conclusion, the iPhone 15 series brings exciting upgrades in camera technology and processing power, maintaining the base storage at 128 GB. Apple's decision to forgo a 2 TB variant in the Pro Max model signifies the company's emphasis on optimizing storage and cloud-based solutions. Despite a higher price tag for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, other models in the series will remain attractively priced, ensuring a diverse range of choices for consumers.
